Position Information
 
YMCA Epping is currently undergoing a $1.1 million dollar re-development. With over 250,000 visits per year, this exciting re-development will offer a even wider range of programs to the local community. A part of this redevelopment includes the inclusion of a Community Health and Fitness Centre.

Positions will be across both Epping and nearby Ryde YMCA – a new multi million dollar Indoor sports facility. Successful applicants will have the Y factor – that means enthusiastic, passionate and full of energy.

Positions include;
• Fitness Instructor
• Customer Service and Sales Staff
• Sports Court Attendants

Key Responsibilities

Fitness Instructors will be required to design and deliver exercise programs for members and supervise the Health Club. They must be able to: develop, conduct and evaluate long term period fitness plans; evaluate and analyse the performance of individual clients or groups in a variety of fitness settings; provide advice on a range of areas related to health and fitness. The Instructor is relied upon to motivate, educate and enhance each participant’s experience. Through developing a rapport with participants, the Personal Trainer fosters a commitment to their improved health and wellbeing.
The Customer Service Officer is responsible for acknowledging and serving all customers that walk into the facility. This position operates primarily from the front desk, and requires a complete knowledge and understanding of reception / customer service. They are responsible for cash handling, telephone operation, program bookings and general enquiries. The Customer Service Officer will possess excellent customer service skills, organisational skills and enjoy working in a service-orientated role. 

As an integral part of the casual team that will interact with the members and guests on a daily basis, you will be expected to be a leader in your persona, energy and commitment to the YMCA values of honesty, integrity, respect and responsibility with the aim of connecting people at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn

  • Basic computer skills

  • Working with other sporting professional such as physiotherapists, nutritionist, etc
  • Strong computer skills

We are looking for an experienced and qualified Elite / international Women’s Gymnastics coach to drive and grow our very successful program. The successful applicant will need to possess strong communications skills, have the ability to work in a team environment  and be able to manage staff, parents and athletes in order to achieve National & International results within the parameters of a business based budget.
 
Salary Range: $70K+ depending on qualifications and experience
Status: 12 month contract, full time

 
Essential Criteria
  • Level 2 WG 
  • 2-5 years experience coaching high performance/women’s elite gymnastics
  • Experience at National and or International standard.

What we expect from you:

The Fulltime Chef’s position is a “hands on role” that requires a sound knowledge of the various operations within a Campus kitchen. Responsibilities include cooking, preparation and serving of meals and ensuring that the meals at the Campus are healthy and nutritious. The day to day operations include overseeing the camp and conference meal delivery process, staff supervision, managing special diets, setting up various functions and assisting with various catering tasks as required, ensuring all service requirements are delivered in accordance to expectations.

 Developing menus, food preparation and cooking
 Management of catering staff and rosters
 Ability to manage the Campus kitchen within budget requirements
 Staff training and development
 Stock control, ordering and monthly stocktake reporting
 Administration and paperwork
 Report daily wastage

What we expect from you:
 
AT NCIE the Campus Duty Manager will be the face of Eora Campus during afterhours centre operations. The key functions of the Campus Duty Manager will be to support the Eora Campus Team with Campus supervision and direction.
The Campus Duty Manager will be the first point of contact for camp supervisors and campers. The Campus Duty Manager will be accountable to the Hospitality Operations Manager and will work closely with the Campus team.
 
The Campus Duty Manager will be required to provide assistance and direction to all onsite camps, ensuring that checklists and procedures are followed and to support these areas of operation with direct service. In addition, leadership and direction is expected towards all casual staff in other departments in absence of their direct supervisor. This position involves the supervision of staff and onsite camps.
 
The Campus Duty Manager will be expected to be knowledgeable in emergency evacuation procedures, OH&S policy and procedure and be a strong communicator. You will effectively communicate any issues relating to the operations of the centre to the Hospitality Operations Manager and provide all required reports and records. The Campus Duty Manager hours are varied and will include nights and weekends.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with Indigenous people in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner;

  • Significant industry experience in providing administration support and staff supervision

Key Responsibilities    
 
The YMCA is committed to creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to pursue careers in the Sport and Recreation Industry. The person selected will be responsible for implementing the YMCAs Indigenous Employment and Training Strategy and achieving its aims by establishing the YMCA Indigenous Sports Management Academy (ISMA). The person selected will be responsible for maximizing the number of Indigenous people employed at all levels in the Centres and establishing mechanisms to grow this number over subsequent years.
 
The initial focus will be on three key areas including raising awareness and building partnerships, providing training and job readiness outcomes for candidates and providing ongoing support, guidance and mentorship for all Indigenous employee’s. The establishment of ISMA will target 2 interns per Centre across all YMCA sites.
 
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to interact with Indigenous people in a positive, sensitive and respectful manner;
  • Ability to liaise and negotiate effectively with service providers, government agencies and community stakeholders;
  • Ability to promote the YMCA of Sydney and the jobs and career paths it will offer;
  • Ability to research and write submissions for funding;
  • Computer literate;
  • Relevant experience in recruitment/employment service delivery with Indigenous people;
  • Current NSW driver’s license.

We are currently looking for a passionate and motivated Community Strengthening Officer to join the Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Team in the Western Sydney Region. This role will be based at Penrith YMCA.

The Community Strengthening Officer Role
 
A newly formed role, the Y seeks a proactive community-minded person who will assist with the fulfilment of the 2011 – 2015 Strategic Plan Goals for Community Strengthening.
 
This role will be principally responsible for the delivery of Community Strengthening in the Western Sydney region. 
 
Broadly, there are two components to their responsibilities:
1. The supervision of current programs and activities,
2. The development and implementation of new programs and activities.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a proactive Community Strengthening function for the Y 
  • Collaboratively implement, monitor and continually improve the Y’s Community Strengthening Streams 
  • Support the execution of the YMCA of Sydney Strategic Plan  
  • Provide event based support to YMCA Centres for key events and campaigns
  • Capture the Y difference through the research and production of stories and publications on a centre-level 
  • Coordinate community, stakeholder and partner surveys and analysis

The Community Strengthening Officer will need to work collaboratively with the Community Strengthening Coordinator, Centre Managers and other key staff to ensure that each program and activity is based on community need, organisational capability and in alignment with organisational strategy.
 
This is a new role to the organisation and will evolve as the needs grow or resources become available. This person will be efficient, well-organised and self-driven. A personal and organisational values match is crucial. The role is regionally-based and will cover the Western Sydney Region.

The Camps Sales Officer is responsible for assisting Camp Managers achieve their bookings targets and maximise occupancy, in line with Business Plan objectives. This position incorporates a heavy sales element, which involves the development and implementation of an effective sales/tour system to achieve sales/booking targets set by the Camp Site Manager.

You will be required to follow up on inquiries, generate new leads, set appointments for presentations and assist the Management Team. Supported by the Frontline Sales and Service Manager, you will form part of the Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Unit of the YMCA of Sydney and work closely with Camping Team to maximise bookings across all 3 camps.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Previous experience in sales role
  • Multi-skilling and an ability to deal with a potentially busy and demanding environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Essential
  • A current and valid Driver’s License – travel is required in this role

Key Responsibilities:

The first and primary measure of the success as Gym Coach is leadership in service delivery, you will be responsible or using your experience and knowledge  to deliver high quality programming for groups of children aged 18months through to 12 years of age. You will work to ensure the service’s philosophy, policies and procedures are implemented and all governing guidelines are met as minimum of operational standards.

Areas of responsibility include delivery of quality care, planning, evaluation, management and leadership of the staff team, financial management, administration, marketing and Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare. You will ensure the service’s philosophy, policies and procedures are implemented and National Standards are met.

Key Responsibilities     
 
Pool Lifeguards at YMCA facilities take on a much greater responsibility than simply supervising water space.  As well as identifying potential risk factors and taking steps to reduce those risks, lifeguards will act as positive role models in an effort to build strong people, strong families and strong communities.
 
Pool Lifeguards supervise the pool environment and ensure the highest standard of public supervision and safety and to liaise and communicate in a positive manner with patrons and the broader community whilst contributing to a fun and enjoyable experience for patrons.

  • Undertake supervision, rescues and emergency interventions in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, RLSSA Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation and industry standards and practices
  • Ensure facility rules are being obeyed whilst at the same time educating facility users about safe aquatic practices
  • Ensure patrons are protected from unruly behaviour and dangerous actions
  • Maintain and ensure safety standards are met in the aquatic environment at all times

Essential

  • Current First Aid
  • RLSS Pool Lifeguard Award
  • Available to work weekends
  • Prior lifeguard experience and the ability to take on a supervisory role

Desirable

  • Previous pool supervisor experience

What we expect from you:
 
Duty Managers will be required to provide leadership and direction to all lifeguard and cleaning staff, as well as all casual staff in other departments in absence of their direct supervisor. This position involves the supervision of staff, programs, facilities, and procedures of the centre. Duty Managers will be constantly striving to ensure the team meets the goals and objectives of the centre. It is expected that Duty Managers will assume responsibility of operations of the centre when a more senior member of staff is absent and that Duty Managers will strive to develop our existing systems through communication with the management team.
 
Duty Managers will be expected to be knowledgeable in plant room operations, water testing & chemistry, and OH&S policy and procedure. You will be a visible presence both on pool deck and in other areas of the centre.  You will effectively communicate any issues relating to the operations of the centre to the Operations Coordinator and provide them will all required reports and records. You will assist with staff training and will lead the lifeguard staff in the event of an emergency.

Key Responsibilities   

We are looking for a highly motivated, exciting and enthusiastic Personal Trainer to join our team and set a new standard in personal training. Fitness Trainers will be required to design and deliver exercise programs for members and supervise the Health Club. They must be able to: develop, conduct and evaluate long term period fitness plans; evaluate and analyse the performance of individual clients or groups in a variety of fitness settings; provide advice on a range of areas related to health and fitness.
 
As an integral part of the casual team that will interact with the members and guests on a daily basis, you will be expected to be a leader in your persona, energy and commitment to the YMCA values of honesty, integrity, respect and responsibility with the aim of connecting people at all times.
 
As a Personal Trainer you will be required to conduct safe, appropriate and stimulating sessions within format guidelines. The Instructor is relied upon to motivate, educate and enhance each participant’s experience.  Through developing a rapport with participants, the Personal Trainer fosters a commitment to their improved health and wellbeing.

Essential

  • Certificate IV in Fitness or equivalent
  • First Aid and CPR

You will work with the Co-ordinator to ensure the service’s philosophy, policies and procedures are implemented, and OSHC National Standards are met as minimum operational standards for the OSHC service.
 
Duties
  • Supervision and interaction with program participants 
  • Ensure the OSHC service meets the individual and group needs of school age children aged 5 to 12 years. 
  • The safety, security and well-being of the children is protected. 
  • The service attains and maintains OSHC Quality Assurance accreditation. 
  • Appropriate service policies and procedures are in place and followed. 
  • Food of appropriate nutritional value and variety is provided and food preparation and storage and hygiene standards are observed.

  • LR licence or willing to obtain one

What we expect from you:

The primary role of the Public Relations Officer will be to provide writing and editing Support as well as media management to the YMCA of Sydney; in doing so, actioning a wide range of projects and tasks to ensure the Communications Strategy captures the Y difference and is executed in line with the 2015 Strategic Plan.
 
The Public Relations Officer will use a range of diverse publications, press releases, newsletters, websites, social media and other communication tools required to tell success stories and promote the YMCA at both a local (centre) and central (organisation) level. Adding value to existing documentation and providing final copy support is also a key function of this role.
 
In addition, the Public Relations Officer will:
 
  • Track, monitor and evaluate media presence for the YMCA of Sydney
  • Provide strategic communications advice and support
  • Develop and maintain media relationships and manage media interactions 
  • Maintain relevant databases of stakeholders and contacts
 
This role requires the person to work closely with the MCFU to deliver the YMCA Strategic Plan as well as project-manage program and department staff. You will work with a range of Centre and Executive Managers and key centre staff in developing 'local area' marketing resources.
 
This person will be efficient, well-organised and self-driven. A personal and organisational values match is crucial.
 
Essential:
  
  • A Tertiary Qualification/and or demonstrated experience relevant to Communications, Public Relations, Corporate Marketing and Promotions or Media OR experience in a similar position
  • Experience in contributing to Communications development / implementation to deliver communications adaptable to a wide range of target audiences
  • Experience in the development and dissemination of press releases, newsletters, e-newsletters and printed publications
  • Experience in social and new media with relevant skills in preparing and managing electronic internet and intranet content
  • A flair for and experience in writing
 
Desirable:
 
  • 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Journalism/Public Relations experience
  • Related experience in the sports and fitness sector will be highly regarded as would experience within a not-for-profit organisation
  • Drivers license

We are currently looking for our next full time Health and Fitness Coordinator at our brand new health club facilities at Great Lakes YMCA! Great Lakes YMCA has recently been re-developed and fitted with brand new health club and exercise equipment! What we expect from you: 
 
The Health & Fitness Coordinator will be required to provide leadership and direction to the Fitness Trainers & Personal Trainers (Permanent and Casual) and assist the Centre Manager to ensure these areas are maintained at the highest possible standards.

As a Coordinator you form part of the middle management team within the organisation.  Your position requires the supervision and management of staff and the administration and management of services, programs, facilities and procedures related to your area of work.  You are required to work with a range of full time staff to meet the goals and objectives of both the Managements and your area team.

The Health & Fitness Coordinator is responsible for assisting in achieving participation and usage targets in line with Business Plan objectives. This position services the needs of the Health & Fitness Centre Members and assists the Centres Coordinators and Centre Manager. You will also be responsible for the training and development of Trainers in line with industry standards. 
 
What we REALLY need:

  • Certificate IV in Fitness
  • Experience managaing a team
  • Customer service experience

What would be helpful:

  • Exercise Science or relevant tertiary qualifications

We are currently looking for our next casual Group Fitness Coordinator!
 
Key Responsibilities  

 
The role will also oversee the team of Group Fitness Instructors, ensuring all participants are effectively supervised, lead and inspired to ensure that every members experience is world class.
 
As a Coordinator you form part of the key Leadership team within the organisation.  Your position requires the supervision and management of staff and the administration and management of services, programs, facilities and procedures related to your area of work.  You are required to work with a range of full time and casual staff to meet the goals and objectives of both the Managements and your team area.

As the Group Fitness Coordinator you will form an integral part of the leadership team. The role encompasses the development of a Group Fitness Program that will be an industry leader with a strong focus on servicing our current members. The role also involves organising activities that attract new participants to the centre and raise the profile of the centre in the local and broader community.

 
Essential
  • Les Mills accreditation
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Certificate III in Fitness or equivalent
  • Exceptional customer service skills
Desirable
  • Fitness NSW Registration
  • Previous experience in Group Fitness Coordinating role
